Hot-air balloon flight
Leave the ground before daylight and watch the Atlas catch the sun first.
The balloon fills on the ground in the racket of the burner, and then nothing: the basket leaves the earth without your feeling it. Below, the plain opens out — palm groves, earth-built villages, fields cut into shapes — and at the back of it the Atlas range, taking the light before anyone else.
It is the kind of thing you do once and remember precisely years afterwards, including how cold it was at take-off.
